WB EDDIE GURLEY, Grand Lodge Chaplain Emeritus, has been honored yet again by being awarded, by Grand Master F. Andrew Lane, Jr., the 2016 RUPERT H. BRAMBLETT, PGM AWARD.
The inscription on the plaque lists some of WB Eddie's Labors in the Quarry of Georgia Freemasonry. This award is, along with others that he has received, just a shadow of his continued, immeasurable dedication and contributions to the Craft. It recognizes the work he has done to the benefit of the Grand Lodge of Georgia, the sitting Grand Master, and Freemasonry in Georgia.
We Salute you, WB Eddie.

We Congratulate and Honor Worshipful Brother Eddie Gurley, Grand Chaplain Emeritus, for having been awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for 2013 at Grand Lodge this year. No more than two of these Medals are awarded each year.
Grand Master Charles Bass, in 1920, requested Robert J. Travis, PGM, to make five honorary presentations on behalf of the Grand Lodge of Georgia. Brother Travis then addressed the Grand Lodge.
"It is the duty of every Mason to labor without weariness and without hope of any reward. This is his obligation and his duty. However, we all like to know that our labors have been appreciated, and when the appreciation is expressed it serves as an encouragement to labor on."
Anyone who knows Brother Eddie knows that he really needs no encouragement at all to press on with his many hours of labor in the quarries of our great fraternity.
This meritorious honor has been limited, since 1977, to two annual recipients. Prior to that time, there were some years when no award at all was made. By Code (9-102) "the Grand Master, the Deputy Grand Master, the Senior Grand Warden and the Junior Grand Warden shall have the right to confer at any Annual Communication not more than two medals of honor for distinguished service." They are awarded only "by unanimous consent of the Grand Master, the Deputy Grand Master, the Senior Grand Warden and the Junior Grand Warden". None of those Grand Officers, nor any Past Grand Master, is eligible to receive such a medal.
Also receiving the Distinguished Service Medal this year is WB Tim Ingram, Pickens Star Lodge No. 220, who served as Grand Marshall. It is only by coincidence that this year's awards went to Grand Lodge Officers. The only eligibility requirement is that the recipient be a Georgia Master Mason in good standing.
Some previous recipients of the Distinguished Service Medal include Worshipful Bros. Gary Leazer, Walter M. Callaway, Jr., F. Lamar Pearson, Carl F. Lester, James E. Moseley, Hoyt Smith, Fred Mealer, Tommy Irvin, James E. Sledge, David Canaday, Sheldon Little, and Ted Hendon.

We are proud that Worshipful Brother Eddie's dedication to the Craft, industrious habits, and strict application to his duties have procured for him the bountiful wages of a Master Mason, and that although they are known but to him, a portion of those wages are now symbolized by this prestigious Medal, the first such awarded to a member of Dallas Masonic Lodge No. 182.

Congratulations, Brother Eddie!
